Queen of Angels Academy celebrates its 50th Anniversary Opening Ceremonies

Queen of Angels Academy inaugurated its yearlong 50th Anniversary celebrations with special Opening Ceremonies on September 14, 2009. Quebec Minister of Justice Kathleen Weil and former Dorval Mayor Peter B. Yeomans were the keynote speakers for the day.

Featured were a blessing by Father Jack Kennedy, a ceremonial candle lighting presentation, a commemorative video, the presentation of 50th Anniversary pins to special guests, the inclusion of items for a time capsule, and a cake cutting.

In attendance were an assembly of students, staff and honored dignitaries including Mr. Fabrice Fortin, political attaché, and Michel Dion, from the office of François Ouimet (Marquette MNA); Mayor Edgar Rouleau of Dorval; Mayor Maria Tutino of Baie d’Urfe; Father Emmett Johns; and board, foundation and parent association members as well as many members of the Sisters of St. Anne, the founding order of the Academy.

At the Welcome BBQ for students, staff and parents which followed,the highlight was the gun salute given by the 3rd Montreal Field Artillery.

A wide variety of events are planned throughout the year, many of them designed to thank staff, students (past and present) and the QAA community at large for their contribution towards making the Academy what it is today.

Future 50th Anniversary events planned are the QAA Foundation Golf Tournament on September 24, 2009, QAA Foundation Casino Night on November 21, 2009, Cultural Evening on February 20, 2010 and Welcome Back Weekend on May 22 - 23, 2010.
